Cyber school students in the Dover Area School District will have a new option for the 2009-10 school year, and district officials are hoping they take advantage of it.Earlier this month, the school board voted to enter into an agreement with Blendedschools.net for the next school year at a first-year cost of $9,500 for basic membership.
Blendedschools.net is an online K-12 curriculum based on Pennsylvania educational standards, with more than 150 member districts statewide.
During an earlier presentation, Blendedschools regional representative Jon Rednak said member districts have used the program in a variety of ways, including creating their own cyber school, professional development, alternate and gifted education, and summer school and credit recovery.
The program also offers several language courses uncommon to high schools, including Chinese, Japanese and Arabic.
District administration officials say entering the Blendedschools.net program will save the district money.
